History
On June 29, 2009 Brian Nally and some other residents organised "red shirt" day at the vacant blocks on the corner of Rose St and Kent Rd (map).

Standing on the back of a ute in his red shirt Brian Nally called on all residents to oppose the proposal from the State Government to sink 42m shaft in the heart of Wooloowin.

Following "red shirt" day a core group of concerned residents formed. This group had a common objective - prevent the shaft. This objective has been captured in the phrase:

DON'T SHAFT WOOLOOWIN
Throughout July 2009 this core group of Wooloowin residents ran intelligence gathering operations to better understand why the shaft had been proposed. They also did letter drops, monitored the proposed site and began activities to help activate and inform the Wooloowin Community.

This group became known as the Kalinga Wooloowin Residents Group. At this stage the group was an informal entity.

In August 2009 the Kalinga Wooloowin Residents Association Inc was formed as an official Incorporated Assocation. The Kalinga Wooloowin Residents Group officially became the Kalinga Wooloowin Residents Association Inc (KWRA).
