BrisConnections Airport Link Toll Profit Details
A spreadsheet (PDF download ~.5Mb) created from many separate sources of information contained in the BrisConnections Product Disclosure Statement 2008 shows BrisConnections will make in the order of $12 million profit per month once they can begin tolling on the Airport Link Project.

This is a pretty big financial incentive to complete the project as early as possible. This might really explain why BrisConnections want the Proposed Wooloowin Worksite.

The calculations are performed based on initial daily traffic forecasts after opening. For example 1 month after opening 67948 cars will travel along the section Bowen Hills to/from Kedron. The tolling structure for vehicles is taken and a percentage of all vehicles is applied to produce a normalised average toll fee. In the case of the Bowen Hills / Kedron toll structure this is $4.43 per vehicle. Daily vehicle rates for the first 15 months of operation are then built from the initial daily traffic forecasts. Although these figure would be expected to rise each month, a conservative approach is taken for months without actual figures. Daily revenue figures are then created based on the normalised toll value per vehicle multiplied by the vehicles per day for each toll section. These are then rolled up to monthly revenue figures based on a 30 month day. The next step is to create a cumulative revenue figure per month. For example the cumulative, or total, revenue for the first two months of operation of the Bowen Hill to Kedron tolling section is $18,060,578. These cumulative figures are then added together for all 3 tolling sections to produce an overall revenue figure. Prorata operating costs are then deduced to create the profit figure. The first 6 months of operation will produce a profit of $72,121,337.
