Proposed Shaft

Artist's Impressions
Residents of Wooloowin, we have a red hot issue right now - the Proposed Wooloowin Worksite on the corner of Kent Rd and Rose St (map, satellite, street view). [ read proposal ] [ full request for change (4.8Mb PDF) ]

Should the proposal be given the go ahead, this monstrosity will be delivered into the heart of our quiet, low density, residential community. 70+ double bogey trucks will be breaking and accelerating through the site 6 days a week from 6.30am till 6.30pm for almost 3 years. The shed in places reaches 6 storeys high.

And that Residents, is just the start.

After studying the proposal put forward by BrisConnections to build the Proposed Wooloowin Worksite it would appear that the reasons to build this site are:

  1. To provide a financial benefit to the contractor Thiess John Holland (TJH). TJH will allegedly have to pay liquidated damages if the project runs over time. According to the BrisConnection website (see here) TJH are on a fixed time, fixed cost contract. Any overrun in cost or time is paid for by TJH; and
  2. If the BrisConnections website is to be believed, Dr Ray Wilson the CEO of BrisConnections will pick up a cool $975,000 if the project is completed on time (see here).

NO WONDER THEY WANT TO SINK A SHAFT IN MIDDLE OF OUR COMMUNITY!

What can you do?

Email or write to Colin Jensen (the Coordinator General) and tell him how disgusted you are that our community is being asked to accommodate this tunnel shaft so that TJH can save money and Ray Wilson can pocket almost $1 million in cash.
